We wanted the hood to feel like shelter before anything else. It’s cut deep and given enough structure to hold its shape, so it frames the face rather than collapsing around it. The white drawcords were a deliberate break from an all-black piece, the one place we let contrast in, because function deserves to be seen. The half-zip came from wanting a single clean vertical line down the chest. It lets the wearer decide how open or closed they want to be, which felt right for a jacket built around the idea of being covered.
For the fabric, we chose a lightweight shell with a subtle texture and a quiet sheen, something that looks considered up close but stays understated from across the room. We used raglan sleeves for ease of movement, because a protective layer shouldn’t feel restrictive. At the cuffs, the hook-and-loop tabs let you seal yourself in. At the hem, we repeated the white drawcords and clear toggles from the hood on purpose, so the piece is bookended top and bottom. That repetition holds the design together and gives the wearer control over the silhouette, worn loose or drawn in close.
We kept the back of the 91st Shell completely clean, with no graphics, no print and no branding. That was intentional. The back is the part of you that walks away and the part others see last, and we wanted it to speak through shape alone.
